NOW Summer 2026 Internship Application

The National Organization for Women (NOW) is the largest grassroots feminist activist organization in the United States. With hundreds of thousands of contributing supporters and members across all 50 states and the District of Columbia, NOW has been at the forefront of the fight for gender equality since its founding in 1966. Through intersectional grassroots activism, NOW works to advance feminist ideals, drive societal change, eliminate discrimination, and protect the equal rights of all women and girls in social, political, and economic spheres. 

Each semester, NOW interns gain hands-on experience that prepares them to become future leaders in activism. Internship opportunities include: 

  • Organizing and attending Congressional and U.S. Supreme Court hearings, press conferences, demonstrations, and rallies 
  • Writing blog posts on feminist and social justice issues 
  • Participating in NOW 101 workshops focusing on feminist topics and professional development 
  • Lobbying members of Congress to support key legislation 
  • Engaging with NOW’s grassroots members

Duties:

President’s Office 

The President’s Office intern will gain firsthand experience in the inner workings of a national grassroots activist organization. This role provides an opportunity to engage directly with NOW’s leadership, participate in strategic planning, and support key initiatives. Responsibilities include: 
  • Attending meetings on NOW’s strategic planning, policies, and initiatives 
  • Assisting in planning rallies, conferences, and NOW events 
  • Supporting the RUN NOW efforts 
  • Playing an integral role in the internship vetting, interviewing, and hiring process 
Vice President's Office -Library Science Intern 
The library science Intern will work closely with the Vice President’s Office and the NOW Foundation department to do research and archive historical documents. Responsibilities include:
  • Archive NOW documents
  • Research past NOW legislative initiatives
  • Writing blog posts on topics such NOW history and feminism
  • Attending meetings related to NOW’s Foundation
Operations and Organizational Development Intern
The Operations and Organizational Development Intern will work closely with the Operations Manager to support the internal systems, processes, and structures that enable NOW’s work. This role offers hands-on experience in nonprofit operations and organizational development within a national advocacy organization.
Responsibilities include:
  • Assisting in the development and organization of internal systems and shared tools, including platforms such as Airtable and SharePoint
  • Supporting efforts to organize, review, and digitize historical and operational records
  • Assisting with documenting and improving internal processes and workflows across teams
  • Supporting cross-functional coordination by tracking materials, timelines, and operational needs
  • Contributing to post-conference follow-up activities, including organizing materials and identifying process improvements
  • Assisting with research and preparation for organizational planning efforts, including budgeting and KPI development
  • Supporting priority operational initiatives to improve efficiency and alignment across the organization

Political Action Committee (PAC) Intern

The PAC intern will work directly with NOW’s Political Director to advance feminist political action and advocacy efforts. Responsibilities include: 

  • Attending meetings related to NOW’s strategic planning, policies, and initiatives 
  • Assisting in planning rallies, conferences, and events 
  • Researching candidates’ records on women’s rights issues and tracking endorsement requests 
  • Attending PAC-related meetings (usually on Saturdays) 
  • Creating content for PAC social media pages 
  • Supporting the RUN NOW training program 

Policy and Advocacy 

The Policy and Advocacy intern will learn firsthand how a grassroots activist organization works by working directly with NOW’s Engagement Team, in addition to legislative research. In this role, the intern will: 
  • Attend meetings relating to NOW’s engagement, policies, and initiatives 
  • Assist in planning rallies, conferences, and any other NOW events 
  • Take initiative on NOW Young Feminist social media and content planning 
  • Facilitate membership engagement activities 
Digital Media - Two Internships Open The Digital Media Interns will work closely with the Digital Director to support the development and execution of social media strategies that increase engagement, storytelling, and advocacy across National NOW’s digital platforms. This role is ideal for a creative, visually driven student interested in digital organizing, social justice, and feminist advocacy. Responsibilities include: 
  • Learning to post to NOW’s social media platforms 
  • Creating digital content, including graphics and videos 
  • Providing photography support, including capturing high-quality images at events, meetings, and actions for use across digital platforms and organizational materials
  • Assisting with photo and video editing
  • Researching current core issues National NOW is focused on
  • Assisting with online community engagement 
  • Knowledge of Canva is a plus 

Accounting Intern  

The Accounting Intern will work under the guidance of the Senior Accounting Manager, gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit financial processes. Responsibilities include: 
  • Reconciling credit card statements and organizing check requests 
  • Assisting with expense reporting and financial reconciliation 
  • Performing general data entry and financial record-keeping 

Membership Intern  

The Membership Intern will work closely with the Membership Manager to support NOW’s membership engagement and retention efforts. Responsibilities include: 
  • Managing membership inquiries and processing membership data 
  • Assisting with member communications, including thank-you emails and outreach 
  • Facilitating mailing inquiries and maintaining accurate membership records 
  • Supporting grassroots engagement initiatives 
  • Attending meetings related to NOW’s Direct Mail and Digital Campaigns 

Chapters 

The Chapters Intern will gain hands-on experience in chapter operations, grassroots organizing, and nonprofit development. Responsibilities include: 
  • Managing NOW membership data via the EveryAction database 
  • Developing and updating resources for chapter leaders and members 
  • Processing chapter supply orders and requests 
  • Assisting with chapter inquiries and communications 
  • Supporting NOW’s high school clubs and Campus Action Networks 

Development/Fundraising Intern 

The Development/Fundraising Intern will work closely with NOW’s Development team to support fundraising efforts, donor engagement, and revenue-generating initiatives. This intern will gain hands-on experience in nonprofit fundraising strategies, donor relations, and grant research. Responsibilities include: 
  • Assisting in donor outreach and stewardship efforts, including thank-you letters and follow-ups 
  • Conducting prospect research on potential donors, corporate sponsors, and grant opportunities 
  • Supporting the planning and execution of fundraising campaigns and events 
  • Assisting with donor database management and gift processing 
  • Drafting grant proposals and reports 
  • Collaborating with the Digital and Communications teams to develop fundraising materials and social media content 
An ideal candidate should have strong research and writing skills, attention to detail, and an interest in nonprofit development and feminist activism. Experience with fundraising platforms or CRM software is a plus.  

Qualifications:
NOW seeks hard-working, enthusiastic, and flexible individuals who are passionate about feminist activism. Applicants should have an interest in women's issues, grassroots organizing, and advocacy. Interns should be committed to advancing equality and justice beyond their time at NOW. 

Salary: NOW provides a $700 monthly allowance to offset interns' travel and meal expenses. Interns are expected to commit 30 hours per week for a minimum of 10 weeks.
