Neil Gorsuch, President Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court seat vacated by Antonin Scalia, has been referred to as “Scalia with a smile.” But his record shows that for women, his smile is more of a sneer. On a range of issues that impact women—from employment discrimination to access to contraceptives to LGBTQ rights—Gorsuch has a dangerous habit of ruling against women’s rights.
This is the most egregious insult to democracy in the history of Supreme Court nominations. Tonight, NOW proudly stands with coalition partners and allies, at the highest court in the land to protest this illegitimate nomination.
President Obama has done the job that the Constitution commands him to do. The Senate has not.

In October, Senate Republicans filibustered two highly qualified women nominees to the D.C. Circuit Court, Caitlin Halligan and Patricia Millett. Republicans are set to filibuster Nina Pillard’s nomination this evening, preventing another woman from sitting on the second most important court in the country.
