The Latest Letterman Controversy Raises Workplace Issues for Women

Every woman — and every man — deserves to work in a place where all employees are respected for their talents and skills. The National Organization for Women calls on CBS to recognize that Letterman’s behavior creates a toxic environment and to take action immediately to rectify this situation. With just two women on CBS’ Board of Directors, we’re not holding our breath.

NOW Launches Expanded Media Hall of Shame

The National Organization for Women is re-launching its popular online Media Hall of Shame. With the help of NOW members and other website visitors, we will be on the look-out in the mainstream media for instances of sexism, racism, sexual exploitation, violence against women and other offenses. Frequent posts will highlight the latest offenses, giving people a chance to rate them and urging activists to write to the media outlets to express their outrage.

For over a decade now the National Organization for Women Foundation’s Love
Your Body campaign has put countered the unrealistic beauty standards, gender stereotypes and sometimes harmful images imposed by media and advertisers with a simple but powerful message to women and girls — Love Your Body. On October 15, we celebrate another year in our campaign to educate and encourage women and girls to say no to negative stereotypes and yes to awareness, health, and a positive body image.
