Chained CPI of Fools

The White House has confirmed that President Obama won’t include the “chained CPI” (a formula for reducing cost-of-living adjustments in Social Security benefits) in his 2015 budget. This is a huge relief for women over 75, people with disabilities, and military veterans, in other words some of the most vulnerable among us.

Memo to AOL: This is what’s really distressed

Terry O’Neill writes for CNBC: “The outcry over AOL Chief Executive Tim Armstrong’s comment that the birth of two “distressed babies” led to his decision to change the company’s 401 (k) plan was jaw-droppingly callous. But it is only part of the real story. When the firestorm hit, this particular CEO was able to walk back his comment and reverse the decision to scale back employee benefits. But under the radar, kicking the foundation away from employee retirement security is looking more and more like the new normal.”

Women Deserve Equal Pay

Women still are not receiving equal pay for equal work, let alone equal pay for work of equal value. This disparity not only affects women’s spending power, it penalizes their retirement security by creating gaps in Social Security and pensions.
