Republican Budget Not Good for Women and so is Shutting Down the Government
WASHINGTON—Whether the Republican funding bill passes or fails the U.S. House of Representatives, we know one thing – women will be harmed. Women will be hurt by Republican slashes to programs and if a government shutdown is imminent, women will not be able to receive services they need.
The GOP plan will slash Medicaid and take away healthcare to more than 13 million women of reproductive age, including 2.6 million Black women, 3.6 million Latinas and 643,000 Asian Pacific Islander women depend on Medicaid for essential medical care, but the heartless GOP majority does not care – they just want to make Donald Trump happy.
The GOP cuts to social service programs that provide nutrition assistance, healthcare, and federal funding to states for necessary services are heartless and profoundly damaging to women and families.
NOW calls on the U.S. House to support a short-term spending bill that keeps current spending in place for six months.
