Earlier today I sent this statement to the press. NOW members can demonstrate a better use of our time than watching Donald Trump’s speech—we can disrupt, organize, and push back!

“Don’t Watch Trump’s Lies—Organize!”
Statement by NOW President Christian F. Nunes
WASHINGTON–I won’t be watching Donald Trump’s address to Congress tonight—because women know what he will say. He will brag and boast and attack his enemies and promise more cuts in government programs that women depend on to save their lives, protect their health, and help them secure a better future.
The cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, along with the purge of federal workers, demolishing of entire government agencies, and emptying of departments that provide essential services to millions of women, is certainly nothing to brag about—they are reckless and dangerous and indicative of a president who is out of control.
But we don’t have to sit still for these lies and horrendous policies. That’s why our message to NOW members is, instead of watching Donald Trump’s speech tonight, let’s push back. We need to lobby our representatives to resist these attacks on women’s physical safety, health, bodily autonomy and economic security. Turn off the TV and pick up a phone or keyboard to tell the House and Senate they need to resist—not enable the most destructive course a President has ever charted for his people.
We don’t need to feed Donald Trump’s ego by tuning in to his rant before Congress—but we do need to push Congress to do their jobs and stand up for what’s right.
