Statement by National NOW President Christian F. Nunes
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Americans sent a clear message in this year’s midterm elections – access to abortion matters. The effort dedicated to protecting abortion rights by the Democrats was a driving force in their victory.
The Democrats’ victory in the U.S. Senate—and the close results in the U.S. House—show that voters rejected politicians who want to take away a woman’s right to choose what she does with her body. Instead, they elected candidates with a vision for the country who vow to support essential rights like health care, child care, reproductive care, and racial justice.
With these victories, the U.S. Senate will be able to better represent the majority of voters who want to advance equality and combat injustice in all aspects of social, political and economic life.
That’s always been NOW’s mission. Now we must work to ensure these leaders keep their promises.
