WASHINGTON – – On Election Day, women proved that our voices—and our votes—can truly make a difference. When women show up, we win. When women run for office, we win. When women get elected, we win.
On Election Day, women broke barriers, shattered glass ceilings, and changed the conversation dominating our politics. Our country now has leaders who will make feminist values a priority.
From Georgia to New Mexico to Minnesota, women achieved historic firsts and opened doors for generations to come. More women than ever before will serve in Congress. Our country also elected its first Black female governor, its first Native American female governor, and its first Native American female senator.
This election was a referendum on the issues shaping women’s lives: the economy, corruption, our health, our workplaces, and our reproductive freedom. Voters came together and overwhelmingly chose candidates who support affordable childcare, accessible women’s health, and protection from gender-based violence.
We know our work has just begun. NOW it’s time to get to work, protect the progress we’ve achieved, and ensure that the voices of women continue to shape the future of our country.
