NOW Urges U.S. Senate to Confirm Loretta Lynch as Attorney General

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch is a highly qualified nominee, committed to equal justice, who should be swiftly confirmed to lead the Department of Justice.

During her 30-year career Lynch has distinguished herself as an accomplished lawyer who has twice led the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York (EDNY). Lynch and the EDNY have led the fight against human trafficking, breaking up sex trafficking rings, bringing to justice numerous sex traffickers, and reuniting families torn apart by the sex trade. Under Lynch’s leadership, the EDNY has tried more terrorism cases since 9/11 than any other office in the country, prosecuted groundbreaking cyber and international organized crime cases, built an MS-13 gang program that is a national model, and protected the environment.

Lynch is a proven leader whose qualifications and strong experience are undeniable. Her nomination should not be used as an opportunity to object to President Obama’s executive action on immigration or any other policies of the Obama Administration.

NOW Urges the U.S. Senate  to swiftly confirm Loretta Lynch, and looks forward to congratulating her as the first African-American woman to serve as Attorney General.
