NOW Demands SCOTUS Uphold Mifepristone Access

Statement by National NOW President Christian F. Nunes

WASHINGTON, D.C.– National Now President Christian F. Nunes issued the following statement in response to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals decision that would restrict access to the abortion pill mifepristone. The U.S. Supreme Court said earlier this year that the drug should remain available under current rules as the case went through the appeals process. The Justice Department has asked the high court to review this latest decision.

“This Supreme Court now has an opportunity to actually help women instead of continuing its erosion of bodily autonomy. We demand that the Supreme Court uphold the FDA’s existing access rules for mifepristone. To do anything else would add another item to the long list of ways court cases and legislation dictate women’s health care versus science and medical professionals.

NOW members do not stand for health care to be compromised, attacked, or taken away.  Taking mifepristone is a safe and effective way to end a pregnancy. The Supreme Court has already severely limited women’s choices when it comes to reproductive rights – don’t take away this option too.”
