National NOW President Christian F. Nunes’ Debut Children’s Book Focuses on Consent, Autonomy and Empowerment

No Hug Today is Available for Pre-Order

Washington – – No Hug Today is the first book authored by National NOW President Christian F. Nunes. In No Hug Today, Nunes uses her experience as the leader of the largest feminist grassroots organization in the country and her background as a licensed clinical social worker to educate children on what it means to give consent.

No Hug Today focuses on themes such as personal autonomy and empowerment. The book, written for children up to age 12, follows a young protagonist named Olivia, who either agrees or holds back from giving hugs to the people she encounters throughout the day based on her own comfort level. With each of Olivia’s decisions, readers get a window into her thought process with meaningful explanations for her choices. The book serves as an engaging conversation starter and tool for parents, teachers, and counselors to help children understand their rights to consent, comfort, and safety.

“With No Hug Today, I wanted to create a story that empowers children to listen to their instincts and understand that their feelings matter. Olivia’s journey helps young readers learn that it’s okay to set boundaries—even with the people they love. My hope is that this book opens the door for tough but meaningful conversations,” said Nunes.

No Hug Today will be published on April 15 and is currently available for preorder at Barnes and Noble and Amazon.
