Statement by NOW President Christian F. Nunes
WASHINGTON— The U.S. Senate’s confirmation of Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense shows they have no respect for women and our national security. The truth is that Pete Hegseth has demonstrated his disregard for women, for the military, and for a system of justice that’s equal for all. Yet, 50 senators and Vice President Vance thought this was a good choice.
Despite clear evidence of his failure to meet even the most basic standards of ethics, preparedness, character and competence, it shows the Senate’s failure to provide competent advice and consent. Instead, this Senate ignored the truth about sexual harassment and Hegseth’s experience. They abandoned their duty and put our national security at risk.
This Senate is playing a dangerous game by confirming unprepared, untrustworthy nominees to high office. We’re all in the crossfire because of this horrible choice.
