Background

The Issue

NOW chapters can endorse the much-needed Family and Medical Leave (FAMILY) Act which will be introduced on Tuesday, September 16. The FAMILY Act would create a national paid family and medical leave program to help ensure that people who work can take the time that they need to address serious health and caregiving needs. Paid leave would help support working families’ economic security, promote racial and gender equity, create a more level playing field for businesses of all sizes, and strengthen our economy.  

The FAMILY Act is the national paid family and medical leave plan that members of the National Organization for Women have wanted and worked for over four decades.  More information about the legislation is included in the letter linked below.
