Eastern District
Kimberly S. Adams
My name is Kimberly S. Adams, and I am running for the NOW Board of Directors (Eastern District) and I solicit your support. My commitment to women’s rights is genuine and longstanding.
Whether teaching about women and politics, presenting my research domestically and internationally on female agenda-setting behavior in legislative bodies, marching for gender equity, or registering voters, I have devoted my career to the advancement of women and minorities in society.
As a NOW Board member, I will serve proudly and use my voice to continue to fiercely advocate for women. The important issues of the day, health care, equal pay, a woman’s right to choose, access to education, domestic violence, and bigotry (to name a few) require a unified front of strong women who are willing to stand tall and do whatever is necessary to protect women’s rights. Since 1966, NOW has been that unified front. Hence, I would be honored to serve another term as a board member.

I am dedicated to securing civil rights for women and girls, people of color, the LGBT community and people with disabilities. I identify as a feminist, nonbinary, lesbian activist, and began my activism in the 1970’s. I’ve lobbied city, county, state and federal elected officials, and will take credit for helping a county official from being fired just because she was a woman. I came to DC in 1989 for my first national march, which led to me taking a job at the National NOW action center. I love NOW and will do all I can to continue to build NOW as a strong advocate for feminist/progressive issues and causes. I’m proud to currently be a NOW Board member and ask you for your vote to continue this important work.

It has been my great honor to be a NOW member for over 35 years, where I have been active at the National, District (Regional), State, and Chapter levels.
In late October 2025 I was appointed as an Interim Eastern District National Board Member. I am looking forward to running as an Eastern District National Board member, thereby continuing my interim work to help reshape NOW.
From a professional perspective, my Accounting, software conversion, system project manager, and other non-profit experiences enable me to view situations from various dimensions.

As a long-time NOW member and president of a local chapter from 2017 to the present, I’m ready to step up as a candidate for the national NOW Board. My previous service on three nonprofit boards has prepared me for the legal duties of care, loyalty and obedience required of board members, including fiduciary responsibility. And my varied work and volunteer experiences listed below have all contributed to my excellent organization, management, research, marketing and leadership skills. This was demonstrated when I was a key player in Virginia’s years-long, ultimately successful ERA ratification effort.
My platform is simple and two-fold:
- Help chapters lean into the residual goodwill to NOW from its legacy as a leader for social change and the empowerment of women and girls
- Help National NOW chart a path forward that has all the creativity, determination, and compassion required to make a new wave of feminism the most successful yet.
I want to help national NOW and local and state chapters work together in better alignment, supporting and amplifying the work to achieve our long-time grassroots objective of achieving social, political and economic equality for women. Clear policies and procedures? Yes. Better membership processing? Yes. Friendraising? Yes. Fundraising? Yes. But along with all that, morale raising and hell raising.
Failure is impossible if we’re working together to enlist support, grow the organization and take bold action.

I am a feminist attorney who joined Morgantown NOW in college circa 1998 or 1999. I have been a long standing NOW member since then and actively involved in my State and local chapter serving in a variety of positions. I am firmly committed to NOW’s six pillars and advancing the rights of women including recognition of the Equal Rights Amendment, pay equity, voting rights, supporting the rights of all people regardless of race, sex, sexual orientation, religion, etc., reproductive justice, and protecting the enviroment.
I would be honored to serve on the Board and help steer the national organization forward in solidarity with our state and local chapters.
