Today, extremists in Congress continued their War on Women by pressing for legislation that would criminalize abortions in the nation’s capital after 20 weeks of pregnancy. Sponsored by Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.), the D.C. 20-Week Abortion Ban would have imposed federal fines and up to two years’ imprisonment for doctors, without exceptions for rape, incest or the pregnant woman’s health.
The attack on Girl Scouts becomes part of patronizing trend that seeks to discredit programs that empower women to be independent leaders. That is not “religious freedom”. That is fear of strong women. Women who work together, be it to sell cookies or sing songs or make the world a better place.
Freedom of religion is one of the most treasured freedoms in this country. However, some interest groups are distorting this sacred freedom to oppress women’s rights and inflict harm upon women.
Sponsored by Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.), the D.C. 20-Week Abortion Ban has no exceptions for rape, incest or health conditions; and it stipulates penalties, jail time and public reporting requirements for doctors. It is a clear strike in the ongoing War on Women, and one that places women’s lives in danger.
