Massachusetts Senate Votes for Childbirth Without Chains

Shackling happens to most prisoners, but is particularly abhorrent when pregnant prisoners in labor are subject to these restraints. The practice can endanger the health of both mother and baby. Massachusetts is one of only 18 states that prohibit the practice, in part thanks to the Massachusetts Anti-Shackling Coalition, of which NOW is a part.

Pennsylvania NOW Endorses Billy Smith

For the first time in NOW history, the Pennsylvania Chapter endorsed a male Democrat over a female. The move is likely a response to incumbent Margo Davidson, D-Deleware, voted for increased restrictions on abortion clinics.
