After eight years of the Bush administration slashing away at women’s and civil rights, shredding social services, and favoring ideology over science, women voters cleaned house today. We believe Obama-Biden will be the most feminist, progressive administration ever to lead this country, and we are ready to work hard to help bring about policies that will increase equality and opportunity for all.”

On October 15, we celebrate another year in our campaign to educate and encourage women and girls to say no to negative stereotypes and yes to awareness, health, and a positive body image.

NOW President Kim Gandy says of the House vote that failed to override President Bush’s SCHIP veto: “NOW decries the cruelty of denying the most basic health care to children whose parents cannot afford health insurance. The 156 House members — 154 Republicans and two Democrats – who voted against the override have let down not only the vulnerable children of this nation, but also put an undue burden on single parents and low-income families who can only pray their children do not get sick or hurt.”
