Women can perform just as well in math and science as men. However, we often hear the opposite sentiment . . . so I warmly welcomed the recent news of Elizabeth H. Blackburn and Carol W. Greider wining the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize in Medicine.

Sen. Al Franken’s amendment to the 2010 Defense Appropriations bill will deny defense contracts to companies that “restrict their employees from taking workplace sexual assault, battery and discrimination cases to court.” The Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act also passed in Congress, which expands existing hate crimes law to include crimes based on victim’s actual or perceived gender identity, sexual orientation or disability.
Including a public option makes good sense and will help control costs, that a majority of voters want, and that an overwhelming percentage of physicians support. The public option should have been included.
If we as a nation are getting heavier, then models don’t need to be all that thin to embody the “rarefied world of perfection” that designers want to portray.
