Action Alert: Call Your Senators NOW to Stop Walker’s Confirmation
We cannot let Donald Trump stack our courts with right-wing, anti-feminist judges. His latest attempt is the nomination of Justin Walker to the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, one of the most important courts in our country. The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals has jurisdiction over cases involving Congress and many federal agencies, giving it enormous power in adjudicating issues that impact our entire nation.
The American Bar Association deemed Justin Walker “Not Qualified” for his current judgeship in the Western District of Kentucky because of his lack of experience. Now, four months after the conservative majority in the Senate confirmed him, Trump is attempting to place this inexperienced and unqualified judge in one of the most influential courts in the country.
Not only is Judge Walker unqualified for this position, he holds many anti-feminist and right-wing views. He has worked against providing healthcare for millions of Americans and has voiced dissent against the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) individual mandate. He is openly against women’s right to access contraceptive healthcare and has made statements opposing the ACA’s mandate that employer-sponsored insurance plans must provide contraceptive coverage. Additionally, Judge Walker stood with Brett Kavanaugh and stated that Dr. Christine Blasey Ford was “mistaken” regarding her experience of sexual assault.
This is not the kind of person we need in one of the most powerful courts in the United States. We need judges who will uphold the right to freedom, well-being, and health for all people in our nation, not someone who places right-wing ideology over human rights.
The Senate has Justin Walker’s floor vote scheduled for June 8th. Help us prevent Justin Walker from being appointed to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals by calling your Senators and urging them to vote against cloture. By doing this, we can block a vote on Walker’s appointment and delay Senate action for as long as necessary.
