Walmart, Coors, ExxonMobil, and Others are Greenlighting Hate Speech
Statement by National NOW President Kim Villanueva
WASHINGTON–The Heritage Foundation has doubled down on misogyny with the appointment of Scott Yenor to a senior leadership position. Yenor has called professional women ‘medicated, meddlesome, and quarrelsome.’ He has argued, ‘If we want a great nation, we should be preparing young women to become mothers,’ and has even questioned whether Jewish members of the U.S. Senate can be trusted with ‘national leadership.’
Yenor has pushed for employers ‘to support traditional family life by hiring only male heads of households.’ He has openly called for a return to the English common-law concept of ‘coverture marriage,’ in which women lose the right to vote, work in professions, or hold property—ceding all authority to their husbands.
Any donor who supports the Heritage Foundation is enabling this hate. Major corporations like Molson Coors, ExxonMobil, and Walmart have donated to Heritage, and they must end their support immediately. It’s irresponsible — and bad business — for any company to bankroll misogyny and bigotry.
NOW calls on every corporation, foundation, and donor to sever ties with the Heritage Foundation at once. Silence is complicity. Continued funding is an endorsement of discrimination. Companies must publicly and unequivocally withdraw their support, review their political giving, and ensure their dollars do not fuel attacks on women, religious minorities, or anyone else Heritage targets.
The Heritage Foundation and its donors now face a clear choice. Stand up for equality—or stand with hate. The public is watching, and accountability is long overdue.
