The Planned Parenthood clinic in Aurora, Ill., was scheduled to open in mid-September, but anti-choice forces initiated a legal battle over the building permit. For weeks, Illinois NOW President Bonnie Grabenhofer and chapter activists, along with other pro-choice activists, staged vigils while anti-abortion groups picketed the building. The county finally declared the permit valid, and the facility opened on Oct. 2, offering birth control, abortion and other reproductive health services to women.
