Victory for Women’s Rights in Virginia

Today was a victory for women in Virginia. By electing NOW-endorsed candidates Terry McAuliffe and Ralph Northam to the top offices in the state, voters ensured that Virginia can now be on a progressive path forward for women. Women will have better access to health care – including abortion and birth control. They will have more job opportunities and better chances to improve the state’s education system.

Exit polls show that women turned out in strong numbers to vote for the winning candidates, and were integral to these victories in Virginia. Women showed that they were not fooled by the Republican candidates’ attempts to portray themselves as moderates, a claim belied by the reality of their extremist legislative history.

Congratulations to all the NOW volunteers and other activists who were on the front lines of this election, knocking on doors and making calls on behalf of these pro-women candidates.
