WASHINGTON, DC— Christian F. Nunes, National President, National Organization for Women (NOW) issued the following statement as the U.S. Supreme Court takes up Donald Trump’s claim of absolute immunity:
“The Supreme Court must not only reject Donald Trump’s absurd claim of absolute immunity—it must do so immediately.
“Today is all about delay. Donald Trump wants the Supreme Court to help him run out the clock and escape justice. But the Justices know that his attempts to overturn the 2020 election were not ‘official acts,’ but blatant, corrupt, and illegal actions to commit fraud, obstruction, and conspiracy. And they know that justice delayed is justice denied.
That’s why the Supreme Court must follow the example it set in Bush v. Gore, when it issued its ruling one day after oral arguments. Prosecutors have said that no rule prevents this case from proceeding in the summer or fall. It is imperative that this trial takes place before the election. The Supreme Court must issue a swift, decisive ruling so Donald Trump can be brought to justice.”
