Shame On Senate Republicans for Obstructing Voting Rights

WASHINGTON, D.C. — All 50 Senate Democrats today voted to consider the Freedom to Vote Act.  From Joe Manchin to Bernie Sanders, Senate Democrats stood up for democracy—but Republicans, to their everlasting shame, used the filibuster to once again block debate.

Instead of “one person, one vote,” our democracy is being upended to favor one party seeking to control all the votes.  Voter suppression and voter nullification laws, for example, are designed to open the gates of democracy to some, while adding barrier after barrier for others. We cannot continue to let this cycle continue.

NOW urges the Senate to finally break the filibuster’s dangerous hold on our democracy. Bring the Freedom to Vote Act to the floor for an up-or-down vote, now.
