NOW Hails House On The Passage Of The Respect For Marriage Act

The National Organization for Women applauds the House for passing the “Respect for Marriage Act,” a critical – and bipartisan – step toward codifying the rights of millions of LGBTQIA+ families. Not only have the extremist justices on the Supreme Court confirmed that they no longer respect or consider precedent in their decisions, but they have firmly declared their intentions to attack and dismantle basic human rights for millions of Americans.

Our only chance of securing essential protections relies on us – the voters – and the elected officials we choose to represent us. Now that the “Respect for Marriage Act” passed in the House with support from both parties, it heads to the Senate to determine whether LGBTQIA+ rights will be federally protected or left to a religiously motivated Supreme Court who are emboldened and enthusiastic to overturn the landmark decisions that granted marriage equality.

NOW urges its members to contact your Senators to vote in support of this vital bill that will prevent this basic human right from being eliminated by a court intent on undoing decades of progress.
