NOW Condemns the Use of Rape as a Weapon of War

Women and Children Deserve Protection, Not Brutalization

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Christian F. Nunes, National Organization for Women (NOW) National President, issued the following statement as the world witnesses the continued devastating use of rape as a weapon of war:

“As the national president of the country’s largest grassroots feminist organization, I must loudly call out and condemn the use of rape as a war maneuver. Women and children around the globe deserve protection, not brutalization. Rape must never be part of a battle plan. Rape is an appalling display of sexual violence and calculated cruelty.

NOW stands for ending violence against women, and that includes denouncing the horrors of rape and the darkness that follows. We must all bear witness to these widespread crimes against humanity and put a stop to the deafening silence. Now is the time to make our voices heard and demand peace and safety for women and children worldwide.”
