New Census Data Confirms Women Still Earn Less than Men

Washington, D.C. – National NOW President Christian F. Nunes issued the following statement in response to the U.S Census Bureau’s Income, Poverty and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States report released Tuesday:

“U.S. government data confirmed today that I, like other Black women, make 69 cents to the dollar of white men. When we advocate for equal pay, it’s not only about the money in a paycheck, but the ripple effect this income gap creates that limits generational wealth, economic stability, and professional and personal opportunities. It’s an unfortunate reality that when women show up on the job, they face layers of gender and/or race discrimination – and then get paid less while doing it.”
