Election Countdown
We have 97 days to the election and NOW members and activists have been hard at work to turn out a tidal wave of feminist voters. With the unprecedented challenge of having elections during a pandemic health crisis – this will be the most consequential election in our lifetime. We have an urgent opportunity to elect feminists and we must take advantage – you can track the endorsements from NOW PAC here.
Black women have been called “America’s most influential voting bloc,” and here’s a conversation on that topic with Errin Haines, editor-at-large for The 19th. This analysis from CNN makes the point that “from Donald Trump to Ted Yoho, Republicans are losing with women voters.”
And three cheers—at least—for AOC! When Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez gave her speech holding Ted Yoho accountable for his obscene, hate-filled language, she rattled the rafters of the old-boys club in the U.S. Congress.
From activists who make headlines (like the “Wall of Moms” protesting in Portland) to those who volunteer for campaigns, make calls and send emails for the causes they believe in, we’re all making a difference.
In fact, according to this paper published by the European think tank IAI, the pandemic can lead to a larger role for women in conflict mediation around the world.
On a different note, here’s a headline that I just had to stop and read, from the American Academy for the Advancement of Science: “Men are more likely than women to endorse COVID-19 conspiracy theories.”
And finally, this week’s musical offering—from Yo-Yo Ma!
Until next week, take care, stay safe, and stay connected.
