Happy New Year! Welcome to 2015 — and good riddance 2014! Let’s be real, 2014 was not exactly our year. Between the Supreme Court deciding that employers’ personal religious beliefs are more important than our basic health care, the Republican takeover of Congress, and the tacit acceptance of domestic violence disguised as mild policy changes by one of our country’s largest and most popular institutions, we are ready to say goodbye to 2014.
The truth of the matter is that this work can be incredibly frustrating and discouraging. When our Congress is disproportionately filled with anti-choice men, when survivors of sexual assault are still not taken seriously, and when black men and women are being killed for walking down the street, it can feel easier to just give up.
But we must keep going. And we will keep going. It is up to us to stand up for justice for women, make our voices heard, and take responsibility for lifting up those whose voices have been historically silenced. It is up to us to keep up the fight, and demand the rights we are entitled to as human beings.
Today marks the fresh start of a new year, and an opportunity to start 2015 full of passion and energy. Will you join us?
