Gender differences not grounds for assumptions

In an opinion piece for The New Haven Register, Rhea Hirshman writes: “My students often talk about concerns such as workplace equity (one young woman said recently, ‘People wouldn’t look at me funny when I tell them I work in a plumbing supply store’) and the highly gendered messages of advertising and pop culture (a young man said ‘I wouldn’t have to fake an interest in sports with my male friends’). So, in no particular order, I offer a few ways to gender balance the world.”
