ACLU: Mississippi School to Revise Policy, Pay Damages to Lesbian Teen Denied Her Prom

Miami Herald’s Steve Rothaus reports on the settlement between Constance McMillen, the girl who was denied the right to bring her girlfriend to prom, and her high school. McMillen has won her case, and her school will be implementing “a policy banning discrimination or harassment on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity, the first policy to do so at a public school in the state of Mississippi. The school also agreed to pay McMillen $35,000 in damages and pay for McMillen’s attorneys’ fees.”
