Get Ready for the 2007 Annual Conference

By Bonnie Rice, Conference Manager

There is much to celebrate at the 2007 National NOW conference: the 2006 midterm election victories, Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House, and last but not least, the 30th Anniversary of the NOW PAC, the political arm of NOW, which endorses, supports and promotes electing feminists to federal office.

The conference will run for three fabulous days, July 13-15! You will cheer progressive politicians at the Presidential forum, where we hope to hear from all the candidates seeking the presidency, listen to dynamic speakers at general sessions, participate in workshops and skill building sessions, network with feminists from around the United States and Canada, and enjoy great entertainment. Be part of the action with celebrities, elected officials, civil rights leaders — women and men who have made a different in our society.

Detroit is the host city for the 2007 National NOW conference, which will be held at the Hyatt Dearborn, located between the Detroit airport and downtown Detroit.

The Presidential Candidates forum will be part of the NOW PAC's popular Political Institute — training on recruiting, campaigning for and electing feminists to public office. We are also building on the 2006 Young Feminist Summit, with special workshop sessions on young feminist leadership and key issues. The call for workshop proposals is on the NOW website at www.now.org/conference/.

Michigan and the Detroit area are rich with women's history. Detroit NOW will have information on exhibits, museums, and events in and around the Detroit metro area. And don't forget your passport — a trip across the bridge to Windsor, Ontario, Canada is a wonderful way to start your trip to the Detroit area or to wind down after the conference closes on Sunday afternoon.

Circle the dates on your calendar, check-out air fare sales (Southwest Airlines is one of the low-fare carriers that serves Detroit), look up the Amtrak schedule (the train station is very near the hotel), or get out that map for a road trip and join us for three days of empowerment. Registration form ( see page 11 ) and other details are available online.

Check www.now.org for regular updates on conference agenda, speakers, workshops, entertainers, exhibitors and to register online. For information on auction donations, exhibits and program book ads, contact Bonnie Rice at 202-628-8669, extension 117 or email conference@now.org.
