Spring 2000 • Violence in the U.S.

The World March of Women in October will focus on ending violence against women and poverty. The issue of violence has been a major one in the U.S. in the past year. We have seen numerous incidents of men, young men and even boys committing murder, with women and girls as their frequent targets. We're sure you have some thoughts on this very serious subject-tell us what's on your mind:

1. What would you say are the contributing factors in the recent series of violent incidents in the U.S.?

2. Why are women often the targets of violence?

3. What part do you think the media play in fostering violence?

4. What can we tell children about the current threat of violence? If you are a student, do you feel less safe at school since the recent shootings?

5. What can we do to reduce violence in the U.S.?

Please give us your name, and city and state where you live (in case we quote you):
