Moore Bequest Helps NOW Act
by Liz Gilchrist, Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving
At the NOW Action Center, it is sometimes hard not to be astonished by the incredible generosity of our members who give so freely of their time, their talents, and their money to our struggle for equality for women.
One such moment occurred in October with the news that NOW will be receiving a generous bequest from the James A. and Rosalie E. Moore Trust. We are extremely grateful that the Moores designated this wonderful and thoughtful gift for NOW before their deaths. Because of the Moores' careful estate planning, NOW will be more prepared to increase our field organizing and campaign training in order to combat the recent right-wing gains in the November elections.
James and Rosalie Moore were members of NOW in Florida for many years. In 1990, as they considering their financial future, the Moores decided to create a trust. Since neither of them had any immediate family, the couple carefully chose organizations whose work they admired and supported to be the ultimate beneficiaries of the assets they had accumulated over their lifetimes. And they named Rosalie's best friend as trustee, with the confidence that she would carry out their wishes following their deaths. As a result of their careful estate planning, both national NOW and the Moores' local chapter will be able to increase their activism and advocacy for women.
If you would like explore ways that you too could further the important work of NOW and our chapters, and help ensure our effectiveness for future generations, we are here to help! Please contact Liz Gilchrist, Gift Planning Director, at the NOW Action Center to discuss your ideas and plans. Liz can be reached by phone at 202-628-8669, extension 112, or by email. You can also send her a letter at NOW, 733 15th Street, NW, Second Floor, Washington, D.C. 20005.
