Proposed Bylaws Amendments


Proposed by the National Board of Directors
Proposal to amend the bylaws by changing the title of the Secretary to Vice President-Membership.
Proposed additions are in italics; proposed deletions are [bracketed].

Current Bylaw

Article VI, Section 1, D.

D. Secretary. There shall be a Secretary who shall be salaried and shall be a voting member of the National Board. The Secretary shall keep the minutes of the meetings of the Board, the Executive Committee and the National Conference; shall be responsible for the general correspondence of the corporation; shall be the custodian of the records; and shall maintain the membership records. The Secretary shall perform such other duties as may be delegated by the President and Board. For corporate purposes, when necessary this position shall be designated Secretary/Treasurer.

B. A Credentials Committee of at least six members shall be appointed by the President with the approval of the Board at least six months prior to the National Conference.

Proposal to amend the bylaws by deleting the requirement to publish the budget in an every-member NOW publication prior to adoption and replacing it with a pre-adoption mailing to the leadership list and a post-adoption printing of an abbreviated version in an every-member NOW publication.

Article X, Section 3

The Finance and Budget Committee shall prepare a proposed line-item budget for the fiscal year. The budget, after having been published in an every-member NOW publication, shall be approved by a majority vote of the members of the Board present and voting at a meeting preceding the commencement of the fiscal year on January 1.

The Finance and Budget Committee shall prepare a proposed line-item budget for the fiscal year. The budget, after having been published in [an every-member NOW publication] a NOW leadership mailing shall be approved by a majority vote of the members of the Board present and voting at a meeting preceding the commencement of the fiscal year on January 1. After the budget is adopted, an abbreviated version will be printed in an every-member NOW publication.
