Statement of NOW President Terry O’Neill Regarding Legal Momentum’s Amicus Brief in Chevron Corp v. Donziger

Washington, D.C. – Recent news accounts that the National Organization for Women (NOW) accepted a donation from Chevron Corporation in exchange for filing an amicus brief in Chevron Corp. v. Donziger are false. NOW had no hand, directly or indirectly, in the amicus brief, and has not received any donations from Chevron Corp.

Legal Momentum has been fully independent of NOW since 2009. The independence of the two organizations should have been obvious from their respective IRS forms 990, which are publicly available documents. NOW’s most recent IRS form 990 is available directly from the IRS, or can be downloaded online, free, from organizations like Guidestar, (click here) and is always available from the NOW national office upon request.

Like other women’s organizations, Legal Momentum is a respected and valued ally in the struggle for women’s equality, even though we may (and do) disagree from time to time.
