Our Hearts are in Charleston

Washington, DC – We mourn for the victims of the shootings in Charleston and grieve with their families and friends.  It’s important to recognize that this was an act of racial terrorism, and tragically it did not occur in isolation.

Statistics show that in racially motivated crimes in the United States, African Americans are targeted more than all other groups combined.  Policy proposals and legislative remedies can and will be discussed later, but today is a time for sorrow, reflection and solidarity with the community that’s been riven by this horrendous act.
