NOW Denounces Male-led Congressional Push for D.C. 20-Week Abortion Ban

When will the radical right-wing men in Congress let up? Tomorrow the House Judiciary Committee is scheduled to mark up H.R. 3803, the D.C. 20-Week Abortion Ban.

Sponsored by Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.), the D.C. 20-Week Abortion Ban has no exceptions for rape, incest or health conditions; and it stipulates penalties, jail time and public reporting requirements for doctors. It is a clear strike in the ongoing War on Women, and one that places women’s lives in danger.

In May, Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) was denied an opportunity to testify at a hearing on the D.C. 20-Week Abortion Ban.

This can’t be said more clearly: Rep. Franks is not the mayor of Washington, D.C., and he has no place taking private medical decisions away from women in the District of Columbia.
