This is the first in a series of Election Day messages -? some information, some inspiration, and some fun in these final weeks leading up to November 4.

Links to campaigns and ballot battles are below, along with important voter information. Please forward this to your family and friends and encourage them to get involved. NOW activists and supporters have always tuned in and turned out to elect feminists and to defeat ballot initiatives that would take us in the wrong direction. Make a difference!

Take Action: Vote!

Mark your calendars for Tuesday November 4, Election Day. To make sure you won't be turned away on Election Day, check to see that you are registered to vote by contacting your Secretary of State. To register to vote, go here. Some states have closed registration, but others are open through Election Day. Also check to see if your state allows early voting -? vote early, and volunteer on Election Day!

Obama-Biden: The Ticket For Women

Why Do Feminists Support Obama? For more than a decade, Barack Obama has said "yes" to women's rights, while John McCain has consistently said "no" -- NO to pay equity, NO to contraceptive access and reproductive rights, NO to appointing Supreme Court judges who will uphold women's rights and civil rights, NO to funding shelters and other anti-violence programs, and NO to supporting working moms and dads with policies that support work/life balance. We join with Sen. Hillary Clinton in saying "NO" -- No Way, No How, No McCain!

Read NOW PAC's analysis about where Obama stands on the issues.

How YOU Can Get Involved!

  • Barack Obama and Joe Biden have great resources on their website, including helpful guides on how to talk to your neighbors about the issues, flyers, and how to find your nearest campaign office.
  • Check NOW PAC's Obama-Biden Website and our suggestions for getting involved!
  • Help Spread The Word with our flyer on why women should vote.

Elect a Congress Obama Can Work With

It isn't just the presidency that's at stake -- Congress is, too! We need your help to elect a feminist majority in Congress! This year, voters could send scores of new feminists to Congress who are committed to NOW's mission and to women's rights.

NOW PAC has endorsed more than 85 federal candidates who have pro-women's rights platforms, including many incumbents who have demonstrated their commitment to leading and passing legislation on the issues we hope will be at the forefront of the agenda for the next Congress. A list of local, state and nationally endorsed candidates can also be found here.

If the progressive candidates are not in danger in your state, help other candidates in nearby states. Make phone calls, send a donation, or take a road trip to help elect feminists to Congress. We are all in this together, and together we will change the 'face' of politics.

NOW Pushes Back on Bad Ballot Initiatives

In several states, NOW activists and supporters are striking back against dangerous ballot measures that would roll back women's rights and civil rights. While conservatives failed in many states to win enough signatures to put dangerous initiatives on the ballots, there are still some important battles underway.

In Colorado, voters face votes on important issues such as defining a fertilized egg as a person and an anti-affirmative action initiative. NOW opposes all five Colorado initiatives. Learn more and spread the word.

  • Affirmative Action ? Amendment 46 (Colorado Civil Rights Initiative)
  • Right to Work ? Amendments 47, 49, 54
  • Abortion ? Amendment 48 (Definition of Personhood)
  • South Dakota voters will again vote on a dangerous abortion ban.

In California, voters will decide on Proposition 4 which would force parental notification for abortion. Also on the ballot is California's Proposition 8 which would ban same-sex marriage after it has just been legalized. We fought so hard for the right of all to marry -? let's not lose this time either.

We must defeat Issue 2 In Florida. Find out how you can help with the "Say NO to 2" campaign as voters will decide whether to bar ALL legal recognition of same-sex partnerships.

In Arizona, voters again will go to the polls to defeat Proposition 102, a same-sex marriage ban. Defeated once in 2006, the discriminatory initiative is back, and we can defeat it again.

Each of these initiatives needs your attention and support. If you can travel to one of these key states and help out -? grab a friend and hit the road! Or visit the websites provided and learn how you can help. Activists in these battles need you now more than ever! If you have the capacity to travel to a swing state or a state that has an anti-woman ballot initiative, please contact NOW Field Organizer, Ali Rodway at chapfield@now.org for suggestions.
