A century ago, brave women fought for my right to vote and I will always honor that right and responsibility. My vote is my voice and I cannot influence change if my voice goes unheard. I am making a pledge to vote in the 2014 midterm elections because marginalized people face injustice at every turn. My vote is one of the most powerful tools I have to advocate for these groups.
I vote for every woman who is told that she does not have the right to her own body. I vote for every woman who is devalued when she receives lower pay for the same work. I vote for equal human rights and protections for people of all sexual and gender identities. I vote for every person’s access to safe, inclusive healthcare. I vote for the safety and security of every man, woman, and child that crosses our border. I vote toward a future where there is never another victim of senseless racial violence.
Silence allows oppression to continue. When we vote, our voices disrupt these systems of oppression and foster positive change in our government. I’ve taken the pledge – will you?
Tomorrow at 3am I will be waking up to begin the GOTV effort in this mid-term election. A VOTE is a VOICE!!!
