Modernization

NOW’s bottom-up, grassroots structure has achieved momentous change in the half-century since its founding. But our opponents continue to try to push women back. As we recognized in the 1998 Declaration of Sentiments, “Today, we fight the same reactionary forces: the perversion of religion to subjugate women; corporate greed that seeks to exploit women and children as a cheap labor force; and their apologists in public office… But we will keep moving forward.”
To continue moving forward – and fighting back – NOW activists and leaders are engaged in a process for modernizing the organization’s structure in order to optimize our strengths and improve our effectiveness. In 2012, NOW’s membership charged the NOW Structure Modernization Working Group with organizing online and in-person meetings of NOW members to consider ideas generated by the NOW Board, the Regional Conferences and the National Conference, and to develop proposed revisions to NOW’s bylaws and policies.

NOW has hosted a series of webinars dedicated to modernizing our structure.
